Having great success since its release, branching off from a stand-alone mod of the Arma franchise, DayZ is very popular for its gunplay and immersive aspects.

It's sad because I'm only now just realizing that it's taken a collection of 3 games to get back what I got out of a single older game & mods.DayZ is a hardcore survival MMORPG that places players in a post-apocalyptic world. So I guess that's 3 games I've been relying upon to replace the old Arma 2 DayZ experience. I've also been playing that alot to relive the adrenaline fueled moments of knowing you're about to loose everything when you're in a gun fight. I pretty much find myself jumping between those 2 games when it comes to craving a zombie survival experience, while DayZ standalone continues to collect dust.Įdit: I also forgot to mention Hunt: Showdown. Not all of what I miss, but certainly alot of it. That game has brought back to me alot of what I miss about playing the old Arma 2 DayZ mod back in the day. Lastly, there's the honorary mention of 7 Days to Die. Hell, thanks to the mod scene, owning Arma 3 is like owning multiple games in your steam library.

There's also a separate launcher you can get for free called the Arma 3 DayZ Launcher which you can use to easily find a server to play on & it will also go ahead & automatically grab & install all the mods you need to play on the server you choose.Īll that, and I haven't even mentioned all the other mods for Arma 3 that aren't zombie themed, but still a blast to play. There are DayZ mods in Arma 3 that make the standalone worth forgetting about. My 2 cents: Move on to Arma 3 & dive into the mod scene there. I bought it the day Early Access was announce, and to this day it is still the largest source of buyers remorse & resentment within my steam library. Standalone died the day Rocket & Bohemiem decided to use the same game engine used for Arma 2. BI may not give good content but the moders are fantastic, and IF you spend the time waying through the crap you will find a server that meets your needs. In the end, the answer is obvious if you love DZ, SA is the way to go. They have 5 servers on 4 maps and range between SUPER easy to OMG what did I get myself into. (shout out to CWZ_ Coffee with Zombies) It has made all the diff. The fact is, no matter how many people complain, The game is good and can be extremely fun. The cars on modded servers work generally well compared to Vanilla cars/ WHY IS THAT? I myself play modded servers and NEVER have to deal with this. Vanilla servers are great for pvp, but it has far to many cheaters. To better answer your ? IMO it depends on what route you take when u hit up SA. I the game was so bad this would not be the case. Just like mod There is 1000s of people that have 1000s of hours in game.

MOD, it had 10 years to grow and no company telling it how to do it. There are many cheaters on Vanilla servers, and the forums are heavily screened for almost any dissent. Vanilla cars are a MESS and it is a real bad inside joke. And to BI adding exciting new content is a can of mystery meat.

sure they update the game a few times a year, BUT doing so usually breaks other things. (in most cases) But BI is dropping the ball constantly. SA was a mess and I was still having a great time.
